Bolang Die Casting Engineering Team reviewing DFM protocols for automotive parts

Engineering the Impossible: From Complex CAD to High-Integrity Production

Bridging the gap between “theoretical design” and “manufacturing reality.” We don’t just cast to print; we optimise for zero-porosity, Class-A surfaces, and tariff-free scalability before the first mould is cut.

Why Engineering Support is the Single Point of Failure

In global sourcing, the biggest risks aren’t on the shipping vessel—they are hidden in the design phase.

The “Black Box” Design Gap

Most casters accept drawings without feedback. You only discover “Metallurgical Brittleness” or invisible shrinkage after you have paid for a $30,000 mould.

Bolang Stance: We refuse to cut steel until the physics work.

The ECO Lag

When Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) occur, fragmented suppliers fail to sync documentation. This leads to production of obsolete versions and wasted lead time.

Bolang Stance: Centralised Version Control (Ningbo & Perak).

“Paper Engineering”

Engineers often design for function but overlook Gate Design or Thermal Balancing required for 53mm thick-wall parts, leading to inevitable porosity.

Bolang Stance: Simulation-First Protocol.

The Bolang R&D Ecosystem: Pre-Production Intelligence

Engineering is not a department; it is the intelligence that governs our 1,600T machines. We employ a Forensic Production Protocol to ensure designs are manufacturable before they reach the factory floor.

DFM (Design for Manufacturing) & Forensic Optimisation

  • Advanced Mould Flow Simulation: We simulate thermal distribution to ensure zero-porosity even in 50mm+ wall sections. We predict where air entrapment will occur and engineer vacuum vents accordingly.
  • Metallurgical Pre-Selection: We advise on the optimal alloy (ADC12, A380, AlSi10Mg) based on your need for thermal conductivity (up to 150 W/m·K) or impact elongation (>3%).
  • Tooling Life Engineering: We optimise H13 steel mould designs for a 100k-150k cycle life, building pre-emptive maintenance scheduling into the engineering phase.

Related Capability: See how we apply these protocols to High-Precision Infrastructure.

Bolang Engineering and Quality Team discussing DFM simulation results

Our Ningbo-based engineering team acts as the “Central Brain” for global projects.

Dual-Shore Engineering Redundancy

How we maintain a “Digital Twin” of your project across two countries to ensure technical consistency and tariff avoidance.

Ningbo Engineering Hub (The Brain)

Focused on rapid prototyping, DFM feedback, and the fabrication of H13 Steel Moulds. This is where the engineering heavy lifting happens, utilising China’s mature supply chain for speed.

Perak Production Engineering (The Engine)

Seamlessly receiving the “Digital Twin” of your project. Our Malaysia team focuses on Substantial Transformation Compliance—engineering the assembly and finishing process to meet Certificate of Origin (CO) requirements for 0% US import tariffs.

Engineering Success Case

The Porosity Fix: Saving a 53mm Thick-Wall Housing

Challenge: A UK client’s hydraulic housing faced an 18% failure rate due to internal shrinkage in a 53.3mm thick section.

Bolang Engineering Intervention: We didn’t just cast it; we simulated it. Our thermal analysis identified the heat trap. We re-engineered the gate design and applied 50 mbar vacuum-assist technology to evacuate air 0.5s before injection.

Engineering & R&D FAQ

How early should I involve Bolang’s engineers?

Ideally, before you finalise the CAD. Involving our DFM team during the design concept phase often allows us to reduce mould complexity by up to 20% and eliminate features that would require expensive secondary machining.

Do you charge for DFM reports?

No. We consider the DFM report a standard part of our forensic audit for every serious RFQ. It is our investment in the success of the project.

How do you manage ECOs (Engineering Change Orders) across two countries?

We utilise a centralised ERP and shared “Mirror” engineering standards. An ECO issued in the UK is digitally propagated to both our Ningbo tooling center and Perak production lines simultaneously to ensure version control.

What specific software do you use for simulation?

We utilise industry-standard Moldflow simulation software to analyse gate location, fill time, temperature distribution, and air entrapment prediction prior to tool fabrication.
